Tate And Roberts Lead Women's Basketball Team To 74-62 Victory Over Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Yale, 74-62, on Wednesday, December 1 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Junior Miranda Tate (Bolingbrook, Ill.) tallied a season-high 18 points and sophomore Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) also chipped in 18 points to match her career high in the win.

Providence led by as many as 10 points in the first half with 8:11 remaining on the clock (24-14), but a pesky Yale squad would not go away easily. The Bulldogs cut the lead to one (33-32) with 2:25 left in the half, before Providence went on a 7-2 run and headed to the locker room with a 40-34 advantage at the break.

In the second half, the Friars showed a bit more offensive determination, running their lead up to 21 (59-38) with 12:14 to play. The Bulldogs got as close as eight points (67-59) with 4:30 to play, but the Friars were able to control the game down the stretch to earn their fourth victory of the season, 74-62.

Senior Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) and senior Mi-Khida Hankins (Baltimore, Md.) led a solid effort on the glass for Providence with a game-high nine rebounds each. The Friars held a 52-36 advantage on the boards for the game. Junior Lola Wells (Fontana, Calif.) dished a game-high seven assists, while Hankins added a game-high five blocked shots. Providence recorded 12 blocked shots as a team and assisted on 20 of its 31 field goals in the game.

Michelle Cashen and Allie Messimer each scored 12 points for the Bulldogs. Cashen added a team-best seven rebounds and dished five assists. Aarica West handed out seven assists to go along with a team-best three steals.

The Friars will return to action with back-to-back games at the Brown BEAR Classic on December 3-4. Brown University is hosting the event and all games will be played at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I. The Friars open up with Brown on Friday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, December 4, Providence will face Florida at 4:00 p.m.
