Women's Basketball Wins Third-Straight Game With 63-48 Victory Over Dartmouth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Chandler McCabe (Winter Park, Fla.) tallied a career-high 16 points to lead the Providence College women's basketball team to a 63-48 victory over Dartmouth on November 26 in Providence, R.I. McCabe hit 6-of-10 attempts from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point range in 21 minutes of play. Sophomore Lauren Okafor (New Haven, Conn.) recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career with personal bests of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

In the first half, Okafor matched her career high of nine points and added a team-best six rebounds to give the Friars a 28-26 lead at the break. Her ninth point of the afternoon came as time expired in the half, after hauling in an offensive board and connecting on the put-back. McCabe added seven points in the first half. Tia Dawson led Dartmouth with six points and five rebounds.

In the second half, Dartmouth hit a three point bucket to take a 29-28 lead just 25 seconds into the action. The Friars answered to go ahead six (35-29) with a quick 7-0 run at the 15:47 mark. The Big Green cut the deficit to three (35-32) with 14:57 on the clock, but it would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. Providence closed the game with a 28-16 scoring advantage.

Joining McCabe and Okafor in double digits were Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) and Rachel Barnes (Windsor, Conn.). Wright recorded 11 points and four rebounds, while Barnes chipped in 13 points and nine boards. Eleven of her 13 points came in the decisive second half of play.

Dartmouth was led by Kamala Thompson's 12 points, and Dawson finished the day with 10 points and a team-best eight rebounds.

The Friars return to action on December 3-4 at the Brown Bear Classic on the campus of Brown University in Providence, R.I. The Friars' first opponent will be Fairfield on Saturday, December 3 at 4:00 p.m. Providence will take on host Brown the following day (Sunday, December 4) at 4:00 p.m. All games will be played at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
