Second-Half Rally Falls Short For Women's Basketball At Hartford, 57-54

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Hartford, 57-54, in non-conference action on Thursday, Nov. 20 at Chase Arena in West Hartford, Conn. Senior Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) paced the Friar effort with 19 points. Senior Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) contributed a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, marking the 13th of her career.

Providence found itself trailing by as many as 15 points with six minutes to play in the first half. The Friars cut the deficit to 10 (34-24) with 2:44 on the clock, before Hartford converted two free throws for a 12-point lead heading into halftime (36-24). The Friars committed 16 turnovers in the half, and Hartford converted them into 18 points.

Amber Bepko keyed Hartford's first-half lead with 15 of her game-high 23 points on 5-6 shooting from the field, including 3-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Harris tallied 10 points in the opening 20 minutes for the Friars.

Providence opened the second half on a 14-6 run to get within four (42-38) with 13:31 remaining on the clock. Hartford answered with a 7-2 run to push its lead back to nine (49-40) with 10:54 on the clock.

The Friars took control over the next 8:30 of the game, and out-scored Hartford, 12-3, to tie the game, 52-52, with 2:35 remaining. Bepko answered for Hartford on the other end with her fifth three-point bucket of the night at 2:28 and a short jumper at 1:33 (57-52).

Senior Chanise Baldwin (Pontiac, Mich.) hit a lay-up for the Friars with 1:08 left in the game to get within three, and Rule came up with a steal on Hartford's next possession, but the Friars were unable to capitalize down the stretch. Providence out-scored Hartford 30-21 in the second half.



Rule enters the weekend with 998 career points, and will be looking to become the 32 player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 23 against Virginia Tech at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
