Women's Basketball Defeats Harvard, 71-60

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Harvard, 71-60, for its first victory of the season on November 18 in Providence, R.I. Providence improves to 1-3 on the year, while Harvard drops to 0-3.

Providence took a 33-30 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The opening half was tightly contested, and featured eight ties and 10 lead changes.

The Friars maintained their lead throughout the second half on their way to victory. Harvard got as close as two (42-40) with 12:58 to play, but the Friars went on a 16-4 scoring run to take a 14-point advantage (58-44) with 7:40 on the clock.

The Crimson made a 16-8 run of their own to get within six (66-60) with 1:02 remaining, but the Friars closed the game on a 5-0 run.

Senior Rachel Barnes (Windsor, Conn.) scored 15 of her career-high 22 points in the second half. Junior Symone Roberts (New Haven, Conn.) added 14 points, six assists and five steals, while sophomore Danielle Pearson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed a career-best 10 points. Senior Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) registered her third double-double of the season on 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also collected a career-high four steals.

Victoria Lippert poured in 20 points for Harvard on 8-of-12 shooting. Brogan Berry and Christine Clark added 19 points and 10 points, respectively.

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, November 22 against Oakland. The game will be played in Rochester, Mich. At 6:30 p.m. (ET).
