Women's Basketball Falls To Hartford, 69-50

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Hartford, 69-50, in non-conference action on November 18 at Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion in West Hartford, Conn.

Hartford took a 37-21 lead into the locker room at halftime on 43.8-percent shooting (14-32) from the field, including 4-9 from beyond the three-point arc. The Friars shot 38.1-percent (8-21), including 50-percent from beyond the arc (3-6), but 11 first-half turnovers proved to be the difference. Lisa Etienne netted 14 points to lead Hartford in the first half, while Providence's Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.) scored 12 points in the half.

In the second half, the Hawks took their largest lead of the game (31 points) with 6:49 to play at 60-29. The Friars outscored Hartford, 21-9, from that point on, but the deficit proved to be too great to overcome.

Dorsey finished the game with 17 points for Providence. Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.), who was hampered by foul trouble, played 25 minutes and scored nine points. Jessica Clark (Bronx, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high six boards.

Hartford had three players in double figures on the night, including two who posted double-doubles. Lisa Etienne tallied 17 points. Diana Delva recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Erica Beverly chipped in 12 points and a game-high 11 boards.

Providence (1-1) returns to action at the KCRG-TV9 Hawkeye Classic on November 22-23 in Iowa City, Iowa. Providence's first-round game is scheduled to be played against Portland on the 22nd at 3:30 p.m. (ET). The Friars will face either Iowa or Boston University on the second and final day of action on November 23 at 1:00 or 3:30 p.m. (ET).
