Women's Basketball Falls To URI, 52-43

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Rhode Island, 52-43, on Wednesday, November 16 in Kingston, R.I. Senior forward Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and was the lone Friar in double figures.

URI took a 24-18 lead into halftime after hitting 50-percent of its attempts from the field (10-20). The Friars shot just 23.1-percent (6-26) in the opening half, and 16.7-percent from three-point range (1-6). Providence held a 19-15 advantage in rebounding heading into the half. Ten of the Friars' 19 boards came off of the offensive glass. Wright led the Friars with eight points and eight rebounds. Ashley Rivera tallied nine points for Rhode Island.

The Friars cut the lead to two (37-35) heading into the second media time-out with 7:53 remaining in the game. Providence tied the game, 37-37, at the 7:28 mark on a turn-around jumper by Wright, but the Rams closed out the game on a 15-6 scoring run to take a 52-43 victory. Three of those six points came on a three-point bucket by senior Rachel Barnes (Windsor, Conn.) as time expired.

Emilie Cloutier led Rhode Island with 14 points, while Rivera finished the night with 13 and Boone added 10. Cloutier and Rivera each recorded five rebounds.

Providence returns to action on Friday, November 18 against Harvard. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. at 7:00 p.m.
