Women's Basketball Downs Vermont, 92-76

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Vermont, 92-76, on November 14 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. It marked the first time that the Friars broke the 90-point mark since February 10, 2007 against St, Johns. Four Friars finished with double digit in the scoring column, including senior guard Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) and senior forward Brianna Edwards (Minneapolis, Minn.), who recorded double-doubles in the victory.

Roberts tallied 25 points and 10 assists in 39 minute of play. Her 25 points, 10 assists, and six steals mark career highs for the point guard. Roberts shot 8-18 from the floor and hit each of her nine free-throw attempts.

Edwards posted her first career double-double with a career high 20 points and 15 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. Twelve of Edwards 15 boards came off of the offensive glass.

Baldwin also notched career highs in points (13) and blocked shots (three), while freshman Lexi Sells (Attleboro, Mass.) finished with a career high-10 points in 26 minutes off the bench.

The Friars owned a 46.2% field-goal percentage (36-78) and a 85.7% free throw perceantage (18-21). Providence gathered 44 rebounds, including 21 off the offensive glass.

Providence took a 14 point lead into the locker room at halftime (43-29). The Catamounts rallied to get within five (60-55) with 12:17 remaining in the second half, but the Friars responded with a 20-9 scoring run to take an 80-64 lead with 6:08 on the clock. Providence maintained control the rest of the way.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, November 19 when they travel to Charlottesville., Va. to take on the Virginia Cavaliers. The game will be played at John Paul Jones Arena at 2:00 p.m.
