Women's Basketball Falls To Boston College In Season Opener, 67-41

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Boston College, 67-41, on Nov. 13 in the 2015-16 season opener in Providence, R.I.

The Friars led, 16-9, with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter, but the Eagles closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run to take an 18-16 lead. Boston College continued its run with eight-straight points to start the second quarter to take a 26-16 lead.

Freshman Jovana `Yoyo' Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) halted the run with a three-point basket at 5:26, but it would prove to be the only Friar points, as the Eagles out-scored Providence 14-3 in the second quarter to take a 32-19 lead at the break.

Boston College held the Friars off with a 35-22 scoring advantage in the second half.

The Eagles shot an impressive 52.8-percent from the field (28-53), including 60-percent from beyond the three-point arc (6-10). Meanwhile, the Friars struggled from the floor at 24.4-percent (11-45). Boston College also took advantage of 21 Friar turnovers to post a 23-10 scoring edge in points off of turnovers.

Kelly Hughes led all scorers for BC with 22 points on 8-11 shooting. Kailey Edwards and Marella Fasoula both came off the bench to score 11 points each for the Eagles.

Juniors Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) and Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) each scored nine points for Providence. Nogic finished the game with eight points. Beal also contributed two assists and grabbed four rebounds. Allegra Botteghi came off the bench to haul in four rebounds to match Beal for the team lead.

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Brown University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
