Women's Basketball Falls To The Houston Jaguars, 77-66, In Exhibition Action
Nov. 11, 2002 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to the Houston Jaguars, 77-66, in an exhibition game on Monday, November 11 in Providence, R.I. Sophomore guard Michal Epstein (Rehovot, Israel) led the Friars with 23 points on nine-of-11 shooting from the field, including four-of-six from three-point range. Tamicha Jackson, a member of the Portland Fire of the WNBA, netted a game-high 24 points for the Houston Jaguars. Joining Epstein in double figure scoring for Providence were fellow sophomores Jessica Simmonds (South Orange, N.J.) and Keisha Blackwell (Baltimore, Md.). Simmonds tallied 12 points, while Blackwell connected on 10 points. Senior Kacee Wheeler (Bakersfield, Calif.) pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Friars. Rasheeda Clark, a graduate of Pepperdine, scored 20 points for the Jaguars. Leigh Aziz, a graduate of Syracuse, pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for Houston. Angela Zampella (St. Joseph's University) recorded a game-high seven assists. Providence was plagued with 24 turnovers in the game, from which the Jaguars converted 30 of their 77 points. Houston committed 15 turnovers in the game. Houston also shot 51.6 percent (33-64) from the field, while the Friars connected on 24 of 55 attempts from the field for 43.6 percent shooting.
Providence concludes its exhibition schedule, and will open the regular season on November 22-23 in Burlington, Vermont as part of the BANKNORTH Classic. The Friars will face Navy at 8:00 p.m. in the first round of the tournament on November 22, and will take on either Vermont or Yale on November 23.
