Providence Women's Basketball Wins Exhibition Finale, 85-74, Over Eos Malbas
Nov. 10, 2000 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's basketball team won its exhibition finale on Friday evening, 85-74, over Sweden's Eos Malbas at PC's Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars' were led by senior Jen Gombotz (Southington, Conn.), who scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and added three steals and two assists in 28 minutes. Three Providence newcomers rounded out the PC players who scored in double-figures. Rookie point guard Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.) scored 13 points and added six rebounds, five steals and two assists. Quinn's classmates, forwards Jenese Wilcox (Port Chester, N.Y.) and Ryann Kilgore (Belleville, Mich.) scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. Wilcox followed up her collegiate debut in which she totalled a double-double against Bryant by adding eight rebounds, three steals, two blocked shots and an assist. Providence led, 37-32, at the half, shooting 46.9& (15-32), while Eos Malbas, shot an even 48-percent (12-25). The Swedish team led by as many as five points at 52-47 with 10:55 remaining in the contest when Jessica Ziegenfeldt hit a foul-line jumper. The Friars were able to tie the contest at 55 when Quinn hit a three-pointer in the corner with 9:08 to play. From there, Providence steadily increased its lead to the final, 11-point margin. Eos Malbas was led by Annette Mollerstrom, who had a game-high 19 points.
Providence finishes its two exhibition contests with a perfect, 2-0 mark. The Friars open the regular season on Saturday, November 18th against Central Michigan in the first round of the University of Minnesota Regal Classic.
