PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Brown, 79-45, in its season opener on November 9 at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I. Senior Catherine Bove (Cincinnati, Ohio) was one of five Friars to reach double figures in scoring with a team-best 13 points.

The Friars shot 55.1-percent (27-49) from the field in the game, including a blistering 63.6-percent (14-22) in the second half. Joining Bove in double figures was sophomore Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.), freshman Mi-Khida Hankins (Baltimore, Md.), sophomore Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.) and sophomore Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.). Holmes tallied 12 points, Hankins and Dorsey chipped in 11 points apiece and Cournoyer added 10. Each of Hankins' 11 points came in the second half. Junior Shantee Darrian (Trenton, N.J.) grabbed a game-high six rebounds and added six points. Holmes dished a team-best four assists, while Dorsey checked in with a game-high five steals.

Shae Fitzpatrick was the lone player in double figures for Brown with 16. Sarah Delk tallied nine points and a team-high five rebounds. Natalie Bonds also grabbed five boards in the loss.

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, November 13 against Hartford at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
