Women's Basketball Defeats Merrimack In Exhibition Game, 73-32

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team hosted Merrimack College in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. The Friars claimed a 73-32 victory as five players reached double figures, led by junior Jovana Nogic's (Belgrade, Serbia) game-high 17 points.

Providence held Merrimack to single-digit points in three of four quarters during the game. The Friars built a 17-5 lead through 10 minutes of action and took a 40-13 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Junior college transfer Ny-Asia Franklin (East Orange, N.J.) recorded a double-double in her first appearance with the Friars on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Juniors Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) each tallied 11 points. Jolin also contributed six rebounds, four assists, one blocked shot and one steal. Senior Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Freshman guard Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) also made her collegiate debut for the Friars and posted nine points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists.

As a team, the Friars shot an impressive 52.9-percent from the field (27-51), including a 10-15 performance from beyond the three-point arc (.667).

Mayson Kimball led Merrimack with seven points, six rebounds and two assists.

The Friars officially open the regular-season schedule on Friday, Nov. 10 against Columbia. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
