Women's Basketball Drops Regular-Season Finale To Villanova, 72-38

    VILLANOVA, PA. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Villanova, 72-38 on Monday, March 4 at the Pavillion in Villanova, Pa. Senior Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) led the way for the Friars in their final regular season game with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

    Villanova opened the first half on an 18-4 run. They held their advantage over the Friars for the remainder of the half and carried a 39-22 lead into the locker room. The Wildcats' largest lead of the half came with 30 seconds left on the clock (39-20).

    In the second half, the Friars were outscored by Villanova, 33-16. Rachel Roberts notched a game high 16 points for `Nova, shooting 6-15 from the field, including 4-11 from three-point range. As a team, the Wildcats shot 13-32 from beyond the arc. Laura Sweeney and Lauren Burford joined Roberts in double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

    Providence held the advantage on the boards, 38-36, with 23 rebounds coming off of the offensive glass.

    Providence will begin play at 2013 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship on Friday, March 8. The Friars will enter tournament play as the No. 14 seed and will tip-off against the No. 11 seed at 8:00 p.m. All games will be played at the XL center in Hartford, Conn. An official tournament bracket will be released after all conference games have concluded on Monday night.
