Women's Basketball Falls to BC




    March 2, 1998

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. --- The Providence College women's basketball lost to Boston College, 87-77 in the First Round of the BIG EAST Championship held at Rutgers University on February 28.

    The Friars, down 47-41 at the break cut the lead to one point with 2:28 remaining as Jen Gombotz (Southington, CT) hit a baseline jumper. The Eagles scored the next five points and the Friars would get no closer. Freshman Dani Trippany (Massena, NY) tallied a career high 27 points (7-9 fg) and pulled down five boards. Junior Kerri Sullivan (Walpole, MA) scored a career best of 14 points and collected a team best seven boards. Three others scored in double figures for the Friars.

    Providence shot 50% from the floor while the Eagles shot 42%. The difference in the game was in the rebounding as the Eagles collected 45 boards and PC grabbed only 28.

    Boston College had five players in double figures led by Alissa Murphy and Allison Booth both with 19 points.

    Providence concludes the 1997-98 season with a 10-17 overall record.
