The Providence College women's basketball team dropped a 63-42 decision to St. John's on Monday, March 3 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars move to 7-22 (2-16 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improve to 20-9 (13-6 BIG EAST). Junior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) paced the Friars with 13 points and seven boards.
St. John's opened the game on a 9-0 run that was stopped by a three-pointer from junior guard Karin Robinson (Jamaica, N.Y.) at the 17:17 mark. St. John's out-scored the Friars, 27-12, the remainder of the half and carried a 36-15 advantage into the break. Briana Brown led all scorers with 11 points. Freshman guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) finished the half as the Friars' leading scorer with seven points.
The Friars and Red Storm each tallied 27 points in the second half of play, but the first half deficit was too large to overcome.
Brown finished as the Red Storm's leading scorer with 20 points. Danaejah Grant and Aliyyah Handford joined Brown in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Beal joined Harris with double-digits in the scoring column with 11 points.
Providence returns to action on Saturday, March 8 when it faces Seton Hall in the first round of the 2014 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship in Chicago, Ill. Tip-off at McGrath-Phillips Arena is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CT) / 5:00 p.m. (ET).
