Women's Basketball Defeats Cincinnati, 57-43

CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Cincinnati, 57-43, in BIG EAST regular-season action on February 19 at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Senior Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) led the Friar effort with her fifth double-double of the season on 14 points and 18 rebounds. Wright's 18 boards were one shy of her career high, set against Boston University on December 31 (19).

Wright led the Friars to a 29-24 lead at the break after recording 12 points and nine boards in the first half of play. Wright hit 5-of-6 attempts from the field in the half and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Jeanise Randolph recorded eight points and eight boards for Cincinnati. Providence shot 41.4-percent from the field in the opening half (12-29), while the Bearcats shot just 28-percent (7-25).

Wright locked up her team-leading fifth double-double of the season just 16 seconds into the second half as she ripped down and offensive board. The Friars held the Bearcats to just five points (one field goal and two free throws) during the first 10 minutes of the second half. Providence held it's largest lead during that stretch (+16) with 10:52 remaining on the clock at 43-27.

Providence led by as many as 19 points (53-34) with 4:39 remaining in the game. Sophomore Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) added 11 points for the Friars, while junior Lola Wells (Fontana, Calif.) recorded double-digits for the fourth time this season (fourth time in her career) with 10 points.

Kayla Cook led the way for Cincinnati with 13 points. Randolph finished the day with 11 points and 10 boards. Providence out-rebounded the Bearcats, 39-29, in the game.

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, February 22 against Marquette. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
