The Providence College women's basketball team dropped a tight game to BIG EAST foe Seton Hall, 82-72, on February 18 in South Orange, N.J. Junior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) led all scorers with 26 points and added 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
Providence held a 39-38 lead at halftime, supported by a solid effort from the field. The Friars shot 48.4-percent from the floor (15-31), including 4-of-8 shooting from three-point territory (50-percent). The half featured eight lead changes and five ties, with each team leading by as many as five points. Harris led the Friars with 14 first-half points and also hauled in six rebounds. Rule also reached double figures for Providence with 10 points. The Pirates were led by Ka-Deidre Simmons' nine points. The rebounding battle was even at the break, 19-19.
The game was tied, 58-58, midway through the second half as Friar freshman Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) knifed into the paint for a lay-up. Simmons converted two free throws for Seton Hall at the 9:27 mark to take a 60-58 lead, which it would not relinquish. The Pirates extended their lead to 10 (73-63) with 2:58 remaining. Providence cut the deficit to six (77-71) on two free throws by freshman Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.), but it was as close at PC would get the rest of the way.
Beal finished the night with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, and played all 40 minutes. Junior Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) contributed 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Miller and Iiskola each tallied 10 points, while Miller hauled in seven boards.
Simmons led the Pirates with 18 points and five assists. Alexis Brown registered 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Tabatha Richardson-Smith added 14 points and a team-high nine boards and four steals.
