The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe Creighton, 85-64, on February 15 in Omaha, Nebraska. Junior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) was one of five Friars in double figures, and led the way with 13 points. Harris also hauled in a team-best eight rebounds. The Bluejays got a game-high 25 points from McKenzie Fujan, while Sarah Nelson added 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Creighton hit four-consecutive three-point baskets in the first two minutes of play to take a 12-0 lead. After a Friar timeout, Providence stormed back to take a 20-19 lead at the 9:34 mark with a 20-7 run. The Bluejays regained the lead and pushed it back to six (28-22) with just under six minutes remaining. The Friars finished the half with a 15-12 scoring advantage and trailed by three at the break (40-37). Harris led the Friars in the first half with 13 points and seven rebounds. Fujan posted 13 points for Creighton.
The Bluejays came out strong in the second half, and exploded on another 12-0 scoring run to take a 52-37 lead with 15:37 on the clock. Providence cut the deficit to 11 on two ocassions down the stretch, with the last coming at 6:13 (67-56). However, Creighton finished the game with an 18-8 scoring advantage.
Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) recorded 12 points and five rebounds for Providence. Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) each chipped in 11 points. Beal finished with seven assists, while Rule handed out three. Junior Karin Robinson (Jamaica, N.Y.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Providence with 10 points.
The Friars were held without a three-point field goal for the first time this season, while Creighton converted 8-of-25 attempts from beyond the arc. Providence held a 14-7 scoring advantage at the charity stripe, despite shooting just 60-percent (14-23).
The Friars return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 against BIG EAST foe Seton Hall. The game will be played at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. Providence returns home to Alumni Hall on Feb. 22 to host Xavier at 2:00 p.m. The match-up will serve as the program's annual Pink Out game.
