Women's Hoops Drops 61-43 Decision At Villanova

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Villanova in BIG EAST play, 61-43, on Feb. 5 at The Pavilion in Villanova, Pa. Yoyo Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) led the Friar effort with 17 points as the team dropped to 10-14 overall (2-11 BIG EAST). The Wildcats improved to 12-11 (7-5 BIG EAST).

Providence was within three (24-21) with 1:41 remaining in the second quarter. Villanova closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 31-21 lead at halftime. Nogic led the Friars with 13 points in the opening 20 minutes on 5-8 shooting from the field, including a 3-4 performance from three-point territory.

Providence turned the ball over eight times in the first half and the Wildcats took advantage, outscoring the Friars 11-0 in points off of turnovers.

In the third quarter, the Friars held the Wildcats to 10 points, but were unable to make up any ground as Providence shot just 4-15 from the field (26.7-percent). Villanova took a 41-30 lead into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Villanova opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back three-point buckets and the lead swelled to 17 (47-30) with 8:55 on the clock. Providence managed to cut the lead to 14 (52-38) with 3:58 remaining in the game, but Villanova took control with a 9-0 run to mount a 61-38 lead with 1:32 left.

Nogic was the lone Friar in double figures on the day. Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) came off the bench to record eight points and a team-best nine rebounds.

The Wildcats were led by Alex Louin's 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Louin recorded 11 points, five rebounds and three assists in the second half.

The Friars return to action against Creighton on Saturday, Feb. 11 at DJ Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports GO.
