Women's Basketball Drops 94-61 Decision At #RV/RV Marquette

MILWAUKEE, WIS. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Marquette, 94-61, on Friday, Feb. 2 in Milwaukee, Wis. The Friars dropped to 9-15 overall (2-10 BIG EAST), while Marquette improved to 15-7 (9-2 BIG EAST).

Marquette started the game on a 12-0 run over the first 2:55 of the action, but Providence cut the deficit to as little as seven on three occasions. Marquette shot 70-percent in the opening 10 minutes (7-10) en route to a 22-13 lead after first frame. Friars shot 40-percent (6-15).

The Golden Eagles started the second quarter 5-5 from the field and mounted a 33-15 lead with 6:26 on the clock, forcing a Providence timeout. They out-scored the Friars 28-6 overall in the quarter, including a 16-1 advantage over the final 4:56 of play to take a 50-19 lead at halftime.

Marquette shot 68-percent in the first half (17-25), while the Friars shot 36-percent (8-22). The Golden Eagles were paced by Isabelle Spingola's 17 points. She was 6-6 from the field (5-5, 3FG). Four Friars scored four points each in the half. The Golden Eagles tallied 19 points off of 14 Providence turnovers (19-5).

Providence out-scored Marquette 24-23 in the third quarter. Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) notched 13 of the Friars' 24 points in the frame on 4-5 shooting, including a 3-3 effort from three-point territory. As a team, Providence shot 66.7-percent from the field in the 10-minute span, including 5-5 from beyond the arc.

Marquette earned its largest lead of the game (82-45) with 8:04 remaining in regulation and maintained a comfortable distance the rest of the way.

Spingola led all scorers with 28 points, while Allazia Blockton chipped in 20 points and a game-high six rebounds.

Nogic finished the night with 18 points, two assists and one steal. Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) completed the game with 10 points, two rebounds and one assist.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 4 against DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago, Ill. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go. The game also will be televised on FSN and locally in Rhode Island on Yurview (Ch. 4 & 1004).
