Friars Drop 67-59 Decision To Butler In BIG EAST Action

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Butler, 67-59, on Jan. 30 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Senior forward Alexis Harris recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ijeoma Uchendu tallied all of her game-high 19 points in the second half for Butler, who improves to 12-9 overall (8-2 BIG EAST).

Despite shooting 25-percent in the first half (8-25), the Friars trailed by just 10 at the break (29-19). Harris converted a lay-up with 11:26 to play in the half to get Providence within seven (20-13). From that point, the Friars were held scoreless for a stretch of 8:53, during which time they went 0-15 from the field. Butler gained a 14-point advantage during the drought (27-13). Allegra Botteghi hit back-to-back three-point buckets at 2:33 and 1:53 to get the Friars within 10 (29-19), and finished the half with nine points. Harris led Providence on the boards with five rebounds.

In the second half, the Friars cut the deficit to as little as six (51-45) with 9:16 to play, but it proved to be as close as they would get. Providence shot 47-percent from the field in the second half (16-34), but couldn't find an answer for Uchendu, who shot 7-11 from the field.

Three Friars joined Harris in double figures, including Evi Iiskola (12 points), Allegra Botteghi (11 points) and Alison Lewis (10 points). Karin Robinson dished a game-high five assists and hauled in six rebounds.

Providence recorded a 44-34 advantage in rebounding in the game. The Friars' 44 boards match the team's season high. Providence out-scored Butler 15-9 in second-chance points and 12-6 in fast-break points. Butler benefited from 20 Providence turnovers, which it was able to convert into 16 points.



The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 1 against Xavier. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
