Women's Basketball Falls To No. 24/21 DePaul, 96-50

CHICAGO, ILL. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to league-leading and No. 24/21 ranked DePaul, 96-50, on Jan. 24 in Chicago, Ill. Freshman Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) led the Friars with 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds.

The Friars trailed 24-14 after the first quarter of play. DePaul took control of the game in the second quarter with an 18-0 run during a span of 5:22 to mount a 48-18 lead, and eventually took a 54-25 lead into the break. Jolin led the Friars in the first half with seven point and three rebounds. Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) added five points, three boards and two assists. Chanise Jenkins lead DePaul with nine points, four assists and three steals.

DePaul closed out the game with a 42-25 scoring advantage in the second half of play to take the victory. The Blue Demons shot 53.6-percent from the field (37-69), including 40-percent from beyond the three-point arc (10-25). DePaul also held a 49-27 edge on the glass, as five players recorded five-or-more rebounds in the game, led by Jacqui Grant's nine caroms.

Beal finished the day with nine points, three boards and two assists. Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) also recorded nine points for the Friars. Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) contributed eight points.

Providence College returns to action on Friday, Jan. 29 against Georgetown. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I., and will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
