Women's Hoops Falls At Xavier In First-Ever Meeting, 75-52

    CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Xavier, 75-52, in BIG EAST Conference action on Saturday, January 18 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Junior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season for the Friars with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while fellow junior Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished with a game-high 18 points.

    The Musketeers took a 32-24 lead into the locker room. Providence held a 19-17 advantage with 8:29 remaining on the clock, before Xavier closed the half on a 15-5 run. Harris led the Friars with nine points and seven rebounds. Shatyra Hawkes led the Musketeers with nine points, four rebounds and two assists.

    In the second half, the Friars were within six points (41-35) with 15:40 to play, but Xavier opened the game up with three-consecutive three-point baskets and added a lay-up to push its lead to 17 (52-35) at the 12:54 mark.

    Hawkes led Xavier with 16 points and added seven rebounds and three assists. Ashley Wanninger chipped in 15 points, and hit three of the Musketeers eight three-point buckets in the game. Aliyah Zantt and Briana Glover rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

    Xavier out-scored Providence 24-3 in points off of turnovers and 8-0 in fast-break points.

    The Friars return to action on Tuesday, January 21 against Marquette. The game will tip-off at 8:00 p.m. (ET) at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
