Women's Basketball Falls To 18th-ranked Louisville, 64-48

LOUISVILLE, KY. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to 18th-ranked Louisville, 64-48, on January 18 at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Ky. Sophomore guard Alicia Cropper (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Friar effort with 14 points. Bria Smith led three Cardinals in double figures with 12 points.

The Friars trailed 7-6 in the first half the Cardinals went on a 16-2 run to take a 23-8 lead with 8:18 left on the clock. Providence responded with an 11-0 run to get within four (23-19) at the 1:34 mark. Antonita Slaughter halted the Cardinals scoring drought on a three-point bucket with 34-seconds left to push Louisville's lead to seven at the half (26-19).

In the second half, the Friars cut the deficit to five (30-25) with 16:53 to play, but Louisville took control with a 17-8 run to take a 47-33 lead at the 10:55 mark. Providence trimmed the 14-point deficit to nine (52-43), but it proved to be as close as the Friars would get down the stretch. The Cards finished off the game with a 12-5 scoring edge to take the win.

Louisville shot 52.1-percent from the field (25-48), including 6-15 from three point range (40.0-percent). The Friars were held to 30.0-percent shooting (18-60). The Cards also held a 40-31 advantage in rebounding.

Senior Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) led the Friars on the glass with seven rebounds and chipped in three points and two steals.

Becky Burke and Slaughter joined Smith in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Asia Taylor came off the bench to record a game-high 10 rebounds.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, January 21 against Marquette. The game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. (ET) in Milwaukee, Wis.
