PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Creighton, 58-51, on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 9-9 overall (1-6 BIG EAST), while Creighton improved to 12-5 (6-1 BIG EAST).

The Friars shot 60-percent from the field in the opening quarter to take an 18-14 lead. Providence led by as many as seven (18-11) with 2:16 remaining on the clock, but the Bluejays' Brianna Rollerson converted a traditional three-point play down the stretch to close the gap to four.

Creighton opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a four-point advantage (22-18) with 5:28 on the clock. Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) halted the run with a lay-up, but Creighton outscored Providence 7-2 in the over the course of the next four minutes and took a 29-22 lead at halftime.

The Bluejays pushed their lead to as many as 15 (47-32) in the third quarter with 1:36 remaining on the clock. Beal converted a three-point play with six-seconds remaining on the clock to get within 12 heading into the final frame (47-32).

The Friars closed the deficit to five (50-45) with 3:26 left in regulation as Providence started the fourth quarter with 10-3 edge in the scoring column. Creighton held off the threat with a three-point bucket by Lauren Works with 2:43 remaining in the game. Providence was unable to get closer than six points down the stretch.

Beal led all scorers with 18 points on 6-9 shooting from the field, and a 6-7 performance from the foul line. Freshman Ny'Dajah Jackson (Oakland, Calif.) added nine points for the Friars off the bench.

Works finished the day with 14 points for Creighton, while Marissa Janning and Brianna Rollerson each contributed 11 points. Rollerson added a game-high 12 rebounds to post a double-double.

The Friars return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 against Seton Hall. The game will be played in South Orange, N.J. at Walsh Gymnasium and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The BIG EAST Digital Network will broadcast the game live via FOX Sports GO.
