    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team hosted BIG EAST foe No. 15/13 Louisville on Saturday, January 12 in Providence, R.I. The Friars were edged by the Cardinals, 70-62. With the loss, the Friars move to 5-10 overall (0-2 BIG EAST), while Louisville improves to 14-3 (2-1 BIG EAST). Sophomore Tori Rule(Minneapolis, Minn.) led the Friar effort with 20 points.

    Five minutes into the first half the game was tied, 9-9. The Cardinals went on a 19-0 run ending at 8:17 to give Louisville a 28-9 lead. Louisville held its largest lead of the game (34-14) at the 3:52 mark. Providence closed the half with a 6-2 scoring advantage to chip the Cardinal lead to 14 points (38-24).

    Providence brought in 21 rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play, including 14 off of the offensive glass. The Friars earned nine points off of second chance opportunities.

    The Friars gave the Cardinals all they could handle in the second half, edging as close as five points down the stretch. Louisville led by as many as 17 points in the second half with 11:34 remaining on the clock (50-33). The Friars went on a 17-8 run to cut the lead to single digits (58-50) with 4:52 left. Providence would extend its run to 25-13 to get within five at the 1:26 mark (63-58).

    Symone Roberts(New Britain, Conn.) finished the game with 13 points, including 11 in the Friars' second half run. Roberts also accounted for seven of Providence's 10 assists.

    Providence tied its season high in steals with 14, as the squad forced Louisville into 26 turnovers. Freshman Evi Iiskola(Espoo, Finland) grabbed three steals, while Roberts collected a game high of four.

    Providence finished with 40 rebounds (27 offensive). Senior forward Brianna Edwards(Minneapolis, Minn.) anchored Providence on the boards, with 13 rebounds. Eight of her 13 boards came off of the offensive glass.

    Providence returns to action on Wednesday, January 16 when it travels to Piscataway, N.J. to take on Rutgers . Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
