Women's Hoops Edged By Seton Hall, 68-67

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team was edged by Seton Hall, 68-67, on Sunday, Jan. 11 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Junior Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland) led the Friar effort with a season-high of 19 points.

Providence held a 15-13 lead over SHU with 12:11 left in the first half. The Friars extended their lead to as many as nine points, 29-20, and Providence carried a 35-27 advantage into the break. The Friar offense was paced by senior guard Karin Robinson (Queens, N.Y.) who tallied nine points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor. Ka-Deidre Simmons led the Pirates with 12 points.

The Friars opened the second half on an 11-2 run to hold its largest lead of the game, 46-29 (17 points, 16:19). The Pirates progressively chipped away at the Friars' lead. Seton Hall outscored Providence 37-21 to pull within one point, 67-66, with 1:20 left in game. A Providence foul sent Seton Hall's Ka-Deidre Simmons to the line to shoot two free throws with 12-seconds left. Simmons downed both free throws to give the Pirates a one point lead, 68-67. Seton Hall remained in the lead until the final buzzer.

Three Friars joined Iiskola in double figures. Seniors Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) and Chanise Baldwin (Pontiac, Mich.) each notched double-doubles. Harris recorded 15 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while Baldwin added 14 points and brought in 12 rebounds. Robinson finished with 11 points, dished out three assists and tallied a career-high five steals.

Providence dominated the glass with a 43-34 advantage on the boards. Seton Hall benefited from a 21-17 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Pirates forced the Friars into a season-high 26 miscues.

The Friars return to action on Friday, Jan. 16 against BIG EAST foe Creighton. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
