Women's Hoops Rally Falls Short Against Butler, 77-67

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe Butler, 77-67, on Jan. 8 in Providence, R.I. The Friars trailed by as many as 33 points in the third quarter before rallying late to make things interesting.

Providence collected 15 steals in the second half to help turn the tide, and outscored the Bulldogs 22-10 in points off of turnovers during the final 20 minutes. In the fourth quarter alone, Providence held a 23-10 scoring advantage.

Freshman Jovana `Yoyo' Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) led the Friars with 15 points on the night, while junior Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) finished the game with 12 points.

The Friars shot 44-percent from the floor in the first half (11-25), but they could not match the hot-shooting efforts of the Bulldogs, who drained 14-25 attempts from the floor (.560), including 9-17 attempts from three-point territory. Butler's Blaire Langlois led all scorers with 15 points and she added four rebounds and three assists in the opening 20 minutes. Nogic led Providence with eight points in the first half.

Freshman Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) played a significant role in the Friars' come-back attempt. She registered seven points, three assists and a career-high six steals in the second half. Fellow freshman Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) added seven of her eight points during the second half as well.

Tori Schickel led Butler in scoring with 22 points and contributed a game-high 11 rebounds. Ten of her 22 points came from the charity stripe. Langlois finished the night with 21 points, while Nicole Orr chipped in 10 points.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Jan. 10 against BIG EAST foe Xavier. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
