DePaul Pulls Away Late To Defeat Women's Basketball, 91-71

    CHICAGO, Ill. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to DePaul, 91-71, in BIG EAST play on Wednesday, January 8 in Chicago, Ill. The Friars were led by junior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.), who recorded 21 points and eight rebounds. Providence moves to 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST, while DePaul improves to 11-4 (2-1 BIG EAST).

    Providence trailed by six (31-25) with 5:22 remaining in the first half as Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) converted two free throws for the Friars. DePaul finished the half on a 21-11 run to take a 52-36 lead into halftime. Harris led the Friars with 14 points and seven rebounds. Megan Rogowski led DePaul with 17 points.

    In the second half, the Blue Demons pushed their lead to 19 (66-47) with 11:44 remaining on the clock. Providence closed the gap to eight (72-64) on a 17-6 scoring run with 7:33 to play. DePaul responded with eight-straight points to regain control of the game over the next two minutes.

    Freshman point guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) finished the game with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals for Providence. Rule and sophomore Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland) netted 12 and 11 points, respectively.

    Rogowski completed the night with 30 points on 10-22 shooting from the field, including 8-17 from three-point territory. Jasmine Penny contributed 23 points and seven rebounds. Chanise Jenkins contributed 17 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Jessica January added 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Brittany Hrynko dished a game-high nine assists.

    The Friars return to action on Saturday, January 11 against Creighton. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
