Women's Hoops Drops BIG EAST Tilt At Xavier, 71-59

CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Xavier, 71-59, during BIG EAST play on Jan. 4 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Senior Chanise Baldwin recorded the second double-double of her career with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Her 16 points sets a career-high, as she converted 6-9 attempts from the floor.

Providence held a five-point lead (23-18) with 6:28 remaining in the first half. Xavier responded with a 17-6 scoring run to close the half and take a 35-29 lead into the locker room. Baldwin led the Friars with 12 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and 2-3 shooting from the charity stripe. She also recorded six rebounds, one block and one steal in 18 minutes of action. Jenna Crittendon led Xavier with nine points. The Musketeers scored 16 points off of 12 Providence turnovers in the half.

In the second half, Providence fell behind 57-47 with 6:33 remaining in the game. The Friars clawed their way back to get as close as five points (64-59) with 1:15 left on the clock, but could not overcome the deficit. Xavier finished the game hitting 7-8 free throws to take the win. For the game, the Musketeers hit 30-of-37 attempts from the line.

Karin Robinson was the only other Friar to reach double figures in the game with 12 points. She added a season-best five assists.

The Friars return to action on Friday, Jan. 9 against BIG EAST foe Georgetown. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C.
