Women's Hoops Falls To Butler In BIG EAST Action, 66-61

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Butler, 66-61, in BIG EAST Conference regular-season play on Jan. 2 in Indianapolis, Ind. The Friars fall to 4-10 on the year, including a 1-2 mark in the BIG EAST. Butler improves to 5-9 (1-2 BIG EAST).

In the first half, the Friars gained a five-point advantage (22-17) through the first 9:32 of the game. Butler responded with a 17-2 scoring run to take a 34-24 lead with 3:15 left on the clock. Providence closed the half on a 5-0 run to get within 34-29 at the intermission. Sarah Beal led all scorers in the opening 20 minutes with 10 points on 5-7 shooting from the field. Allegra Botteghi added eight points in six minutes off the bench.

The Friars mounted a six-point lead (49-43) with 12:20 remaining on the clock. Butler responded with an 11-2 run to take a 54-51 lead at the 8:27 mark. The Friars regained a three-point advantage (59-56) with 4:10 on the clock, but Butler would go on to out-score Providence 10-2 to close the game. Providence was held scoreless during the final 2:54 of the game.

Aliyah Miller tallied a season-high 14 points and added a team-best seven rebounds. She shot 5-8 from the field and was 4-4 from the free-throw line. Tori Rule chipped in eight points, two assists and two steals.

Sydney Buck led all scorers with 19 points, while Lexus Murry and Blaire Langlois each scored 14 points for Butler.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Jan. 4 against BIG EAST foe Xavier. The game will be played at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
