Gary Martinelli is in his third season at Providence after serving as an assistant coach at Boston University for two seasons. At Providence, Martinelli handles scouting, film breakdown and team and individual floor instruction. He also plays an integral role in the recruitment of qualified, student-athletes. While at Boston University, he was the primary recruiter of the 1998 America East Rookie of the Year and helped recruit what was known as the best incoming class ever at BU in 1998. He was also the game scheduler and liaison for other internal departments on campus. Prior to coaching at Boston University, Martinelli was an assistant at Bryant College from 1995-97. He began his coaching career as an assistant women's coach at Scituate (R.I.) High School in 1992. He is a 1987 graduate of Plymouth State College and has taken classes toward a Master's Degree at Providence College's College of Continuing Education. A native of Providence, R.I., Martinelli resides in North Scituate, R.I. with his wife, Patrice, and their five-year-old daughter, Kylan. The couple recently gave birth to their second daughter, Capri, on August 2, 2001. |
