Providence's Dana Simonelli Tours With Big East All-Stars This Summer
Providence, RI -- Sophomore Dana Simonelli (Toms
River, NJ/Toms River North) was recently named to the
13-member 1997 BIG EAST/Nike Women's Basketball All-Star
squad which will tour Denmark and Sweden on June 1-11, 1997.
A 6-1 center for the Lady Friars, Simonelli started six of
26 games this season and averaged 4.3 points and 3.0
rebounds.
"Dana deserves this recognition and has worked hard to
improve on her game," said first year head coach Jim Jabir.
"It will benefit her tremendously to play with some of the
best players in the conference and to play against some of
the best players in the world."
This is the eighth consecutive year that The BIG EAST
Conference is sending a women's basketball all-star squad
abroad. The team will have six games during the 10 days and
will be coached by Georgetown University's Patrick Knapp.
Among the teams the all-stars will face are the Denmark
National Team and the Swedish Under-23 National Team.
