Men's Cross Country Climbs to No. 16 In Mondo National Poll
Nov. 2, 2004 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's cross country team (219 points) is ranked 16th in the Mondo Division I Men's Cross Country National Poll, which was released Tuesday, November 2. Providence jumped six spots to No. 16 after its strong performance at the BIG EAST Championships on October 29 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The Friars placed third at the BIG EAST Championships with 52 points behind second-place Georgetown (48 points) and champions Notre Dame (47 points). Junior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) paced the way for the Friars as he ran another strong race and finished fourth overall in a time of 23:43. Senior Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ontario) was right behind Fagan as he placed fifth in a time of 23:48. Providence had three runners finish in the top 10. Senior Patrick Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) was the 10th-place finisher, recording a time of 24:05. Freshman Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) and Patrick Guidera (Clonmel, Ireland) also scored for PC. Smith ran a time of 24:16 to place 14th, while Guidera took 19th-place in a time of 24:28. Providence will compete again on Saturday, November 13 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
