Providence Men's Cross Country Place Third at New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the New England Championships on October 10 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The men's team, led by sophomore Matt Terry (Danbury, Conn.), placed third in the team standings with a total of 171 points. In the women's sub-varsity race, senior Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.) placed 31st in a time of 19:40 for the 5 kilometer course. Junior Christina Conley (Andover, Mass.) placed 43rd (19:57) in a race of 319 competitors. In the men's varsity race, sophomore Matt Terry placed 13th in a time of 25:02 - earning All-New England honors. The next runners in for the Friars were senior Mike Anderson (Ajax, Ontario) and sophomore Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) placing 26th (25:21) and 28th (25:23) respectively. Freshman Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) placed 47th (25:41) and freshman Patrick Desabato (Narberth, Penn.) rounded out the top-five scorers in 57th place (25:48). Next up for the women's squad is the Penn State Invitational on October 16 at University Park, Penn. And for the men, the next race is the Central Connecticut State Mini Meet on October 24 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
