Men Capture Second Place at Notre Dame Invitational; Women Place Eighth

The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday, October 2 at the Notre Dame Invitational. Competing against top-ranked schools in the nation, the men placed second and the women placed eighth. Sophomore Lee Carey (Bedworth, England) led the men by with a fourth-place finish, followed closely by teammate junior David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) in seventh-place. Sophomore Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Spings, N.Y.) led the women with a 28th-place finish.

In the women's race sophomore Hannah Davidson led the Friars with a 28th place finish in a time of 17:19. Freshman Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) finished 42nd overall in a time of 17:28 with senior captain Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) placing 43rd in a time of 17:32. Freshman Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) placed 52nd (17:37) and junior Emma Perron placed 53rd (17:37) rounding out the women's top-five scorers.

In the men's race, sophomore Lee Carey and junior David McCarthy placed fourth and seventh, respectively, in times of 23:50 and 24:01. Senior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished in 22nd place with a time of 24:18. Sophomore Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) placed 37th (24:30) and Tom Webb (Williston, Vt.) placed 49th (24:44) rounding out the Friars' top-five scorers.  


 

 

Up next for the Friars are the New England Championships in Franklin Park on October 10.
