    Men's Cross Country Wins Central Connecticut Invitational

    Ciaran Lynch and Frank Mignano Finish 1-2 for the Friars

    NEW BRITIAN, Conn. -- The Providence College men's cross country team won it's second meet in two days taking the Central Connecticut Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Britian, Connecticut. And, for the second day in a row, PC runners finished first and second to lead the Friars.

    This time it was Ciaran Lynch (Fr., Limerick, Ireland) taking the individual championship in a time of 27:43. Lynch finished two seconds ahead of teammate Frank Mignano (So., Jamaica Estates, N.Y.) as PC runners placed first, second, seventh, eighth and 13th on the afternoon. Providence had 31 points and was trailed by the University of Rhode Island with 42, Central Connecticut with 62, Quinnipiac with 111 and the University of Hartford with 135.

    Roland Lavallee of Quinnipiac (27:46), Jefferey Kurjiaka of Rhode Island (27:56), Clint Santoro of Central Connecticut (27:57) and Mike LaRosa of URI (27:59) finished third through sixth. Following that group were Friars' runners, Patrick Doyle (So., Somerset, Mass.) and Gary Blair (Sr., Dublin, Ireland) in seventh and eighth with times of 28:21 and 28:24 respectively. Nathaniel Green was the Friars' final scorer as he finished 13th in a time of 28:29.

    Also competing for Providence were the following runners and their times: Richard Zabbo (So., No. Kinstown, R.I.) who was 18th in a time of 29:24; Michael Dolan came in 20th in a time of 29:29; Dan Davenport (Sr., Middletown, Conn.) finished 23rd in a time of 29:48 and Brendan Cashman (Jr., Westwood, Mass.) was PC's final runner in 24th with a time of 29:49.

    The men's cross country team is off until September 20th when they travel to Boston to compete in the Boston Festival at Franklin Park.
