Bloomington, Ind. - The 13th-ranked Providence College women's cross country team scored 368 points and finished 10th at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Monday, November 22 at the Indiana Cross Country Course in Bloomington, Ind. PC's 20th-ranked men's team scored 458 points and placed 19th in the men's race that covered the same course.

Leading the way for the Providence men was senior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) who took All-American honors as he finished ninth covering the 10K course in a time of 30:42.90.

Kelly jumped out to a fast start leading the race for two kilometers. "I led the race for 2K, then was in the lead pack for 6K and that's when the race began," explained Kelly. He added, "I felt like I could have been in the top five if I had been more confident."

On the women's side, sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) also took All-American honors by finishing 29th overall in a time of 17:31.

Friars' coach Ray Treacy was pleased with his team's performances. "We're happy to have had Keith (Kelly) finish in the top ten," said Treacy on his top finisher. "We're looking to better next year. The 19th place finish was better than our ranking and we ran without our number three runner (Paul Reilly - out with the flu)," explained the PC head coach.

On his women's team, Treacy said," It was a very solid performance. We came in ranked 13th and finished tenth in the race. This team got better and better every week. I really look forward to having all five of out top runners back next year."

The University of Arkansas won the men's race with 58 points and was followed by Wisconsin with 185, North Carolina State with 201. South Alabama freshman David Kimani was the individual winner in a time of 30:06.60.

Brigham Young took the women's title with 72 points. Arkansas finished second with 125 edging out Stanford with 127 points. Wisconsin sophomore Erica Palmer won the women's race in a time of 16:39.

Following Kelly for the Providence men was Dermot Galvin (So., Kilrush, Ireland) who was 76th overall in a time of 32:04. Ciaran Lynch (Jr., Limerick, Ireland) was 85th (32:08) and was followed by Adam Sutton (Fr., Preston, England) at 133rd (32:54), Tim Curran (Fr., Northboro, Mass.) at 156th (33:18), Tyler McCabe (Fr., Mystic, Conn.) in 181st (33:45) and Chris Livesey (Fr., Preston, England) was 188th (34:03).

Following Cappello for the women was junior Rachel Hixson (Media, Pa.) who was 35th in 17:34.
