Men's And Women's Cross Country Teams Finish Among Top-10 At NCAAs

TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Championships on Monday, November 20 at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The Providence women's team placed seventh of 31 institutions in the team standings with 301 points. Graduate student Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) led the Friars with a seventh-place finish and earned All-America honors after completing the race with a time of 21:04. The Friar men's team placed ninth in the team standings among 31 institutions, behind a solid effort for senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland). Fagan, who recorded All-America honors for the second-straight season, finished the course in fifth place with a time of 31:01. The women's seventh-place team finish is the highest since 2004 when the Friars finished third. It marks the 16th time in program history that the Providence women's cross country team has finished among the top-10 at the NCAA Championships. Hoban paced the Friar women with a seventh-place individual finish in a time of 21:04, and earns All-America honors for the first time in her career at PC. Also scoring for Providence on the women's side were freshman Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine), freshman Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland), sophomore Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) and senior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.). Douglas finished 80th with a time of 21:55. Twohig completed the race in 93rd place with a time of 22:05, followed by DiCamillo in 96th with a time of 22:07. Owen rounded out the list of Friars who scored with a 112th-place individual finish in a time of 22:13. Stanford won the women's NCAA team title with 195 points.
The men's ninth-place team finish is the highest for the program since 2000 when Providence placed third. The Friars' were making their 28th appearance as a team all-time at the NCAA Championships, and their ninth place finish as a team marks the 14th time the program has finished among the top-10 in the team standings. Fagan earned All-America honors for the second-straight season as he placed fifth overall with a time of 31:01. Junior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) was the second Friar to cross the finish line in 74th place overall with a time of 32:14. Junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand), sophomore Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) and senior Nicholas Weidman (Sudbury, Mass.) also scored for Providence. Smith placed 84th (32:25), followed by Yeates, who finished 107th (32:40) and Weidman, who finished 140th (32:58). Colorado earned the men's team title with 94 points.
