MADISON, CONN. -
The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams each placed third at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Hammonassett State Park in Madison, Conn. With the top two teams in each event, the women's six kilometer and the men's 10K, receiving automatic berths in the NCAA Championships, the Friars will wait to see if they receive an at large bid. The 13 at-large teams, for both the men and women, will be announced Sunday evening.
The Friar women are in a better position to get in based on previous performances this season. Saturday, PC scored a team-total of 87 points, nine shy of the winners from Syracuse (78).
The black-and-white was led once again by sophomore Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.). Greany earned third place out of the field of 247 runners, crossing in a time of 19:56.4, just 18 seconds behind the women's individual winner, Lucy van Dalen of Stony Brook (19:38.4).
