NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The fourth-ranked Providence College men's cross country team scored 27 points and captured its third NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 11 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, N.Y. PC's 16th-ranked women's team scored 95 points and finished fourth behind Boston College (47 points), Yale (56 points) and Brown (87 points) in the women's race. The top two men's and women's teams advance to the NCAA Championship on Monday, Nov. 20 at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

The Friars also captured the men's individual title. In the men's race, Providence senior Keith Kelly of Drogheda, Ireland won the individual title in a time of 30:33. It marks the second consecutive year that Kelly has captured the individual title at the NCAA Northeast Regional.

Junior Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand), sophomore Adam Sutton (Preston, England) and junior Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) also finished in the top 10 for the PC men's team. Thorpe ran a strong race for the Friars, finishing second behind Kelly in a time of 30:57. Rounding out PC's top-10, Sutton placed third (31:00) and Galvin was seventh (31:10). Senior Larry Morrissey (Waterford, Ireland) was the final scorer for the Friars, placing 14th in a time of 31:38.

The women's team was led senior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. who finished eighth in a time of 20:52. Also scoring for the Friars were senior Francine Darroch of Cambridge, Ontario (13th - 21:03), sophomore Roisin McGettigan of Wicklow, Ireland (15th - 21:09), junior Kathryn Casserly of Galway, Ireland (28th - 21:26) and sophomore Emily Tallen of Kingston, Ontario (31st - 21:33).

The men's team returns to action on Nov. 20 at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championship in Ames, Iowa. The PC men's team will be making its sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship. The PC women's team will find out on Monday, Nov. 13 if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.
