The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday, October 19. The women's team placed second out of 14 teams, while the men came in fifth out of 12.
The No. 10 Friar women's second place finish was led by freshman Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) who finished the 3K course fifth with a time of 10:28. The Friars other top-10 finisher was junior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) who finished 10th (10:37). Rounding out the scoring was freshman Katie Powell (Wrentham, Mass.) (22; 10:49), junior Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) (23; 10:52), and sophomore Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.) (29; 11:02). The team finished with 89 points. The Yale Bulldogs were the eventual race-winners, with all five finishers in the top-10 and with 24 points.
The men finished fifth on the day with 118 points. Senior Eric Malnati (Walpole, N.H.) finished the 5K endeavor first for the Friars in seventh with a time of 15:46. The Friars second runner to cross the finish line was sophomore Luke Perron (West Hartford, Conn.) who finished 12th in 16 minutes-flat. Shortly following Perron was graduate student Anthony Gonsalves (Pawtucket, R.I.) who finished 17th (16:06), and freshman Brendan Sullivan (Foxboro, Mass.) who finished 20th (16:12). In his first race of the season, senior Nik Rebovich (New Hartford, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a 62nd finish with a time of 18:05.
The Friars next outing will be on Friday, October 26, for the BIG EAST Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The women's 6K race will start at 11:00 a.m., and the men's 8K is scheduled to start at 11:50 a.m.
