Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth In Blue Team Race At Pre Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Men's Blue Team Race Results (Team/Indiv.) - Pre Nationals - October 14, 2006
Providence College men's cross country team competed at Pre Nationals on Saturday, October 14. The meet was hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind. Pre Nationals consisted of 72 teams, which was split into a blue team race and a white team race. The Friars finished sixth in the blue team race with a total of 285 points. Senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) won the race with a time of 23:30.3. He finished six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Robert Cheseret (Arizona), who completed the course in a time of 23:36.2. Colorado finished first in the team standings with a total of 75 points. Florida State placed second (141 points), NC State finished third (152 points), UC Santa Barbara placed fourth in the team standings with 229 points and Georgetown rounded out the top-five with 274 points. PC junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) placed second among Friar runners and 37th overall with a time of 24:21.2. Also scoring for Providence was junior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.), senior Nicholas Weidman (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand). Haji finished 61st with a time of 24:34.7. Weidman placed 81st with a time of 24:46.1 and McLaren finished 105th (24:53.8).
