DES MOINES, IOWA -

Providence College junior Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) competed at the 2011 NCAA Championships in the 1,500 meter prelims on Thursday, June 9 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Matthews automatically qualified for Saturday's final in the event by finishing among the top-five in his heat, with a time of 3:49.24. He ran the final 400 meters of the event in 53.8 seconds. The 1,500 meter final is slated for 12:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, June 11.
