PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) has been named the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA). Doetzel, a five-time All-American, won the 10,000 meter title at the BIG EAST Championships, qualifying her for the NCAA Championships at the University of Arkansas on June 11, 2009.

Doetzel placed second in the 10,000 meters at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Her time from the BIG EAST Championships of 33 minutes 23 seconds ranks fourth in the NCAA. Doetzel will look to improve upon last year's second-place finish and capture All-America honors for the third time this year.

Doetzel is joined by teammates Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland), who also qualified for the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held at the University of Arkansas from June 10-14, 2009.

Arkansas and CBS College Sports TV will be streaming portions of the event. The Friday (6pm-9pm) and Saturday (12pm-2pm) segments will air on CBSC TV and everything else will be streamed online. Fans can access the streams at the Championship Central on NCAA.com (http://www.ncaa.com/loc/ncaa-c-otrack-loc.html). Be sure to check back to Friars.com for more news and results.
