Sacramento, Calif. - Providence College had two track athletes compete at the NCAA Championships on day two of competition on Thursday, June 7. The NCAAs are being held in Sacramento, Calif. from June 6-9.

Graduate student Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) earned All-America honors for third time in her career, and just the first time for outdoor track with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meter final at the NCAA Championships. Hoban posted a time of 33:04.32 in the event, which brings her career with the Friars to a close.

On the men's side, junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) automatically qualified for the 1,500 meter final after finishing fourth in his heat during the semifinals on June 7. Smith posted a time of 3:44.42 in the semis. The top-four finishers in each of the two semifinal heats automatically advance to the finals. Four additional runners with the next best times also advance to the final. Smith will compete for the NCAA title in the 1,500 meter run on the final day of competition (Saturday, June 9) at 11:10 a.m. (PT).

Later today (Friday, June 8), sophomore Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) will compete in the women's 5,000 meter final scheduled to begin at 8:10 p.m. (PT). Doetzel advanced to the final with a ninth-place finish in her semifinal heat with a time of 16:14.57. Doetzel's time was ninth-best overall among Heat 1 and Heat 2 competitors that will be competing in the 5,000 meter final.
