Two Providence Track Athletes Compete On Day One Of NCAA Track Championships
June 7, 2007 SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Providence College female track athletes Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) and Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) each competed in the 5,000 meter semifinals on Day One of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on Wednesday, June 6. The top-six runners in each heat automatically qualify for the final plus the next best four times. Doetzel finished ninth in her heat with a time of 16:14.57. She advanced to the final as one of four runners with the next best times. Doetzel's time was the ninth-best overall among Heat 1 and Heat 2 competitors. DiCamillo finished her heat in 12th place with a time of 16:26.13. Doetzel will compete in the 5,000 meter final on Friday, June 8 at 8:10 p.m. (PT). Today (June 7), Day Two of NCAA competition continues as junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) competes in the semifinals of the 1,500 meter run at 6:05 p.m. (PT). In the final event of the day, beginning at 8:40 p.m. (PT), graduate student Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) will compete in the 10,000 meter final.
