PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Thursday, May 29 that seniors Adam Sutton (Preston, England) and Tyler McCabe (Mystic, Conn.) earned 2003 Track & Field/Cross Country Verizon Academic All-District 1 First Team honors.

Sutton, who graduated with a 3.61 cumulative GPA and a degree in management, has been one of PC's top runners this year. On May 30, Sutton will run the 5,000 meters at the NCAA East Regional Track Championships in Fairfax, Va. He finished 27th at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in November and earned his second All-America honor in cross country. In addition to his strong performance at the NCAA Championship, Sutton won the BIG EAST Cross Country title and the New England Cross Country title. In May, Sutton was named Providence College Male Athlete of the Year. He is a three time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a three time member of the United States Cross Country Coaches Association Men's NCAA Division 1 All-Academic Cross Country Team. For Sutton, it marks the second consecutive year that he earned First Team Verizon All-District 1 honors.

McCabe, who graduated with a degree in computer science and a 3.72 GPA, will run the 5,000 meters on May 30 at the NCAA East Regional Track Championships in Fairfax, Va. He has had a strong senior year. He was the Friars' second finisher (72nd overall) at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November. McCabe also finished third at the New England Cross Country Championship. On the track, he earned All-BIG EAST honors after finishing second in the 5,000 meters at the league's indoor championship and third in the 5,000 at the outdoor championships. McCabe has earned three BIG EAST Academic All-Star accolades and twice was named to the United States Cross Country Coaches Association Men's NCAA Division 1 All-Academic Cross Country Team. Last year, McCabe received Second Team Verizon All-District 1 honors.

Since being named to the Track & Field/Cross Country Verizon Academic All-District 1 First Team, Sutton, and McCabe now will be considered for Verizon Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country National Team honors, which will be determined in June.
