Four Friars Named To All-BIG EAST Men's Track Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Four members of the Providence College men's track and field team were named to the All-BIG EAST Team today (May 14) following their performances at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships (May 10-11). The Providence runners were four of 137 student athletes to be named to the All-BIG EAST Teams (71 women, 66 men).

Providence's 4x800 meter relay team comprised of junior Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomores Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England), Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) and Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand), captured third overall at the BIG EAST Championships. The four finished third with an IC4A qualifying time of 7:35.17.

Doyle and Oakley were named for their individual performances as well. Doyle finished third in the 10,000 meter run with an IC4A Championship qualifying time of 30:18.90, while Oakley finished third in the 1,500 meter run with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:47.89.

The Friars return to action on May 16 when they begin competition at the IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J.
