McMahon Captures College Women's 5,000 Title at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA -- Providence College senior Marie McMahon (Ennistymon, Ireland) captured the 5,000 meter title in the College Championship Division at the Penn Relays on April 23. McMahon, a 10-time All-American who won the 1996 NCAA Indoor 5,000 meter title, won the 5,000 at the Penn Relays in a time of 15:51.41. For McMahon it marked her second 5,000 title at the Penn Relays as last year she won the race in a time of 15:56.86. Also in the 5,000, junior Sarah Dupre (Kingston, Ontario) placed fifth (16:34.35) and junior Gladys Ganiel (Harrington, Maine) finished ninth (16:49.25). Also competing for the PC women's team was freshman Stephanie O'Reilly (Wicklow, Ireland) and sophomore Dana Ostrander (Ballston, Lake, N.Y.). O'Reilly earned a fourth-place finish (9:50.09) in the 3,000 College Division, while Ostrander placed 11th (9:44.36) in the 3,000 College Championship Division. On the men's side Providence junior Ben Noad (Bristol, England) was fifth (14:08.84) in the 5,000 in the College Championship Division.
